Cranganore Fort

Cranganore Fort is located in Kodungallur city of Kerala. It was built by Portuguese colonial power, but later came under the control of first Dutch then lastly Tipu Sultan.

Cranganore Fort, KeralaCranganore Fort, also known as Kodungallur Fort or Kottapuram Fort, is located in Kodungallur of Thrissur District of Kerala. Portuguese built the fort in the year 1523 and they named it "Fortaleza da Sao Tome" in Portuguese language. Dutch colonial power took possession of the fort in 1661. Then, later it came under the control of Tipu Sultan but Dutch power again seized it from him. Later the fort eventually came under the control of Tipu Sultan, who destroyed the fort in the following year. The remaining parts of the fort show that the original fort wall was 18 feet in thickness. The ruin is also known as Tipu`s fort.

Visiting Information to Cranganore Fort
The Cranganore Fort is about 2 km from the town of Kodungallur. Kodungallur Bus Station is 3 km away from the fort. Chalakudi Railway Station (22 km) and Karipur International Airport (37 km) are the nearest to visit the fort. Kodungallur city can also be accessed by National Highway 66.
