Chhaya Wife of Sun

Chhaya is considered as the wife of the deity Sun.

Chhaya, Wife Of SunChhaya is considered as the wife of the deity Sun. The real wife of Sun was Sanjna, daughter of Lord Vishwakarma. Sanjna got him three children named the Manu Vaivaswata, Yama and the goddess Yami (or the Yamuna River.)

Sanjna became unable to endure the passion of her lord and gave him Chhaya as his handmaid. Then Sanjna moved to the forests to practice devotion. The sun though Chhaya to be his wife Sanjna and begot three other child by her. These three children of Chhaya were Sanaischara (Saturn planet), another Manu (Savarni) and a daughter named Tapti (the Tapti River.)

During one occasion, Chhaya got offended with Yama, the son of Sanjna. Chhaya thus condemned a curse upon him and thereby it was discovered that she was not Sanjna. Then Chhaya informed the Sun that his wife had gone to the jungle and then he brought her back to his own dwelling.
