Chapui

Chapui, which has a coal mining area, is located in the Barddhaman district of West Bengal.

Chapui is a census town under the jurisdiction of the Raniganj police station of Asansol subdivision in Barddhaman district in the state of West Bengal in India. The Damodar and the Ajay rivers flow through the area.


The census records of 2001 show Chapui to have a population of 5185. Males amount to 55% of the population; females make up 45% while children less than 6 years of age constitute 12% of the population. The average literacy rate of 59% is lower than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy is 71% and the female literacy is 46%. The area is famous as a coal mining area.
