A Brahmachari needs to prosecute the study of the Vedas in the house of his preceptor. The Brahmachari needs to look after his teacher and he needs to salute the sun every morning. He needs to address his preceptor with respect and assist him in every task.

The Brahmachari should keep standing when his preceptor is standing, he should move when he is walking and sit beneath him when he is seated. The Brahmachari should never sit, nor walk, nor stand, when his teacher does the reverse. A Brahmachari must read Veda attentively placed before his preceptor. He can consume the alms as food only when his teacher permits do so. Brahmachari can take bathe only in the water which has first been used for his preceptor`s ablutions. A Brahmachari brings fuel and water every morning and whatever else required for his guru.
