Bil-kaleshwar Temple

Bil-kaleshwar Temple is situated at a distance of 5km on the Nadaun-Sujanpur road, at the confluence of River Beas and Kunah Khad in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh. The temple dates back to more than 400 years in its built. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, in the form of a shivling (phallus, symbolic representation of Lord Shiva). Legends have it that the Pandavas had started constructing the Bil-kaleshwar Temple, with the help of Vishvakarma during nighttime, when they where serving their period of exile. But they had to abandon building as they were spotted by the local populace. The temple was later finished by a king of the Katoch dynasty. This pilgrimage is considered hallowed as Haridwar in Uttaranchal. During the month of Baisakh (May-June), a fair is held, attended by thousands of devotees to just have a glance of the shivling. People who are unable to visit Haridwar, immerse the mortal remains of their dear ones in the sacred waters besides Bil-kaleshwar Temple.
