Bhamer Fort

Bhamer Fort is located in Maharashtra. The British seized the fort from Marathas in 1818. Later it was rebuilt by Kale Khan in 1820. The fort has 184 caves in it.

Bhamer Fort, MaharashtraBhamer Fort is located in the Sakri tehsil of Maharashtra at an elevation of 2500 meters. The fort has surrounded the village on three sides and the fourth side has been covered with gateway. The fort is consisted of 184 caves along with a water tank and a small temple. Some of the caves can still be seen there. After the Marathas, the British seized the fort from them in the year 1818. In 1820, Kale Khan rebelled and rebuilt the fort. There is a mention of Captain Briggain"s removal of the column by the destruction of important buildings on the Bhamer fort. There is a popular Jain pilgrimage spot with a black statue of Lord Vimalnath at a distance of 27 km from the fort. The spot is visited by several Jain devotees.

Bhamer Fort is 48 kilometers from Dhule city and 13 kilometers from Sakri. Nearest airports are Chikkalthana Airport and Mumbai Airport; nearest railway station is at Dhule to visit the fort. The fort can easily be reached via Dhule, which is connected to National Highway 53. Regular buses are available from all major cities of Maharashtra to Dhule by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
