Beni Prasad Verma was born on 11th February 1941 to Mohanlal Verma and Ramkali in Sirauli of Uttar Pradesh. He did his B.A., LL.B from Lucknow University, Uttar Pradesh. Early he was with Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Political Career of Beni Prasad Verma
Beni Prasad Verma was initially with the Samajwadi Party. Thereafter he joined the Indian National Congress party. He was the PWD minister for Uttar Pradesh for many years. He also played a major role in the UP Bridge Corporation.

He was elected to the eleventh Lok Sabha from Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He also served as the Union Communications Minster in Deve Gowda`s cabinet from 1996-98. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, 1999 and 2004 from the same constituency. In 2009, he was re-elected from Gonda constituency in Uttar Pradesh as an Indian National Congress candidate and on July-12-2011, he was appointed as the Steel Minister in UPA Government.

Beni Prasad Verma has established several educational institutions in his home district of Barabanki. Ch. Charan Singh Mahavidyalay at Bardari near Badosarai and Mahanlal Verma Educational Educational Institute near Barabanki city, founded by him, are specialised centres of higher education.

He married Malti Devi. The couple is blessed with three sons and two daughters.
