Located in the Sattenapalle taluk of Guntur District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the Bellamkonda Fort is a hill fortress that stands at an elevation of 1, 569 m above sea level. Shaped like an equilateral triangle, the Bellamkonda Fort consists of a single stone wall connecting the elevated parts of the hill with bastions at the south east and north- west angles.
History of Bellamkonda Fort
With an obscure history, it is said that the Bellamkonda Fort was constructed by the Reddi king of Kondavid but had fallen into the hands of the kings of Odisha in 1482. Eventually it was taken over by the rulers of Vijayanagar before it finally came under the possession of the Mughals in 1578. But by the end of the 18th century in British India, the fort had a few troops from the British India Army stationed at the bottom of the hill in mud huts.
