Bamboo Guitar, Musical Instruments of North-Eastern IndiaBamboo Guitar is one of the tribal musical instruments mostly used in North-East India. This kind of instrument is also sparingly used in Central India, Southern India and Eastern India. In North-East India, the Rabhas of Assam, the Garos of Meghalaya, the Mizos of Mizoram and a few other tribes predominantly use it. The Munas of Central India, the Reddys of South India and Bondos of Odisha too use more or less the same kind of musical instrument.

Structure of Bamboo Guitar
Bamboo Guitar has short bamboo culms. Only a portion of it is dressed for converting it into a musical instrument. The remaining part of the guitar remains unattended. The thick upper layer of the cylindrical culm is sliced into two veins like strings leaving either end intact to the body. These strings are raised with the help of pieces of bamboo peg. Some of them retain the sliding mechanism of Rider Bridge.

In order to get effective resonance of each strike on the string, holes are cut on the lower edge of these riders facing the tube. The strings are struck with sliced bamboo stick. Some have a hole directly on the sounding board made of bamboo.
