The puja is generally performed for getting children and protecting the mother during pregnancy. Bala Ganapati is the child form of Lord Ganesha. He conceived in red complexion resembling the rising sun. The noble child has four arms carries sugarcane on the upper left hand, a mango on the lower right hand, a jackfruit in lower left hand and a banana on the upper right hand. Bala Ganapati also carries a sweet ball or modaka in His trunk. This form of the Lord is depicted in a sitting posture as well as in crawling and sleeping posture.

The performer of the Bala Ganapati Tantric Puja receives the blessings of the Lord. The ritual is mostly conducted by newly married couples expecting a child or even couples who are childless. The worship of Bala Ganapati also helps in proper growth of a child. When a devotee worships the Lord, he and his family are blessed good health and prosperity. Moreover praying to Bala Ganapati also removes the ill habits of children and increases their intelligence. The Bala Ganapati Tantric Puja is believed to be very effective for safely getting a healthy child. This worship ritual also helps in preventing miscarriage during pregnancy. The puja is considered most useful for childless couples who are devoid of an offspring and desire to have children.

According to the Tantric rituals, the Bala Ganapati Tantric Puja includes various steps, such as, puja ceremony of Bala Ganesha, installation of Ganapati idol, Prana Prathista, 16 step worship ceremony or Shodashopachara, Namavali, Homam and Visarjan (immersion of idol into water). Moreover Tantric Ganesh Chaturthi Patha is also performed. The Bala Ganapati Mantra "Karasthe Kadali Choothapana Sekshookmodakam Bala Suryamimam Vande Devam Balaganaadeepam" is also recited during the rituals.
