Constructed in the year 1854 to 1855, the Bahadur Shahi Gate was constructed by the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar. It is one of the popular monuments of Delhi and is part of the Gates of Delhi. The structure of the Bahadur Shahi Gate was built using brick masonry with moderate use of red sandstone. The gate is part of the Salimgarh Fort and was built for entering the fort, which was constructed during the revolt of 1857 and was later used as a prison to imprison Zebunnisa, daughter of Aurangzeb. Many freedom fighters of Indian National Army were also imprisoned in this fort by the British.
