Asmarohana

Asmarohana is ceremonial rite where both the bride and the groom step on a stone to offer a prayer for their mutual love to be steadfast like the stone itself. This denotes that in order to make the wife firm in her devotion and loyal to him, the husband makes her step on a stone which is placed to the north of the fire. She places the right foot first and repeats the verse: "Tread on this stone, like a stone be firm. Tread the foes down; turn away the enemies." The stone symbolises firmness in crushing the enemies.

This ceremony takes pace after the pradhana homa. The stone used for the ritual is a flat granite grinding stone which is placed at the right side of the holy fire. Some traditions do mention to wear two silver rings on the either toes of bride. This is done by the bridegroom. The bride throws three oblations of rice into the fire after stepping on the stone.
