Built during the time of the British rule, the Anand Bagh Palace now serves as the head office of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University.

Anand Bagh PalaceA royal Brahmin palace located in the Darbhanga district of Bihar, the Anand Bagh Palace also known as the Lakshmivilas Palace was constructed under the reign of Maharaja Lakshmeshwar Singh in the 1880s. The Palace had to be rebuilt in the wake of a massive earthquake of the 1934 in Nepal-Bihar regions.

Maharaja Kameshwar Singh donated the Anand Bagh Palace to the Bihar Government for starting a university to promote the ancient Indian language- Sanskrit.

Architecture of the Anand Bagh Palace
This 138 year old palace was built over 2 acres of land with surroundings of over 30 hectares. Inside the palace is the Darbar hall with its intricate decorations and classy Venetian mosaic floor, glittering chandeliers and walls is one of the most striking beauties of the palace. Anand Bagh Palace is well known for its beautiful gardens surrounding it, like the rare species of plants such as Branched palm having over 8 branches- Rudraksha, Sandalwood, Mahogany, etc. The palace also has many species of orchids surrounding it. English botanist Charles Maries was in charge of the gardens of Darbhanga and the grandeur of this garden was pretty well known in England. As mentioned by Roper Lethbridge, the palace not only has a giant zoological and botanical garden, it also comprises of immense stables.

Over the years, the beauty and grandeur of these gardens in this palace has been slowly disappearing due to the negligence of the Government.
