Alauddin Sarkar

Alauddin Sarkar is regarded as one amongst the personalities who has earned the honour of the masses of Agomani Development block. He was born in the year 1939 in Agomani village in the district of Dhubri (Assam). In the year 1957, Sarkar passed matriculation from Rupshi J.N. Academy. He continued his further studies by completing I.A. and B.A. from B.N. College, Dhubri in the years 1959 and 1961 respectively. He has also achieved the honour of being the first graduate from BN College, Dhubri. Later, in Agomani High School, Alauddin joined as an assistant teacher going on to become the head master of the very school in 1949, one year later after the establishment of the school. He was very much devoted to his work. Agomani High School as an acknowledgement to his devotion, hard work and good-administration, honoured the school as one of the leading educational institutions in lower Assam.

Professional Life of Alauddin Sarkar
Alauddin Sarkar is an ex-MLA. He is also known as a noted lyricist of folk songs of the area as well as a folk-singer. He started composing songs from his school days. Simultaneously, he was associated with `Yatra` and other cultural activities. During stage shows, he managed to create an emotional atmosphere amongst his audience, with his bold renderings. This quality of Alauddin Sarkar made him popular amongst his loyal listeners not only in lower parts of Assam but also in West Bengal.

On his condescension, `Maruchmathi Shilpi Samaj`, a reputed cultural organization was established in Agomani in the year 1972. Through his endless efforts and toil, he has come a long way to take the `Goalparyia` folk-song into state-levels as well as national levels. Till date, he has written and composed more than 500 songs. The songs have already been published in book formations, like "Udhasi Pranor Geet", "Bhaowayiah Pt-I", and "Mor Priya Mohon Malar Pathar". Few more remains to be published. "Manga", "Ganghadharer Pare Pare", "Upre Tolar Manush", "Nalchand", "Bhondar Biwao" etc. are the plays written by him in addition to those mentioned above. Alauddin Sarkar also wrote a one-act play, which is popular still now amidst the people of that locality.

Alauddin Sarkar`s involvement with IPTA
Since the year 1974, he is also associated with IPTA (Indian People`s Theatre Association) and presently he is the Vice-President of IPTA, Assam Wings. In various places of Assam he has successfully accomplished his programme of folk singing. Alauddin Sarkar has also forked out programmes in places like Hyderabad, Patna, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. With Padmashree Protima Pandey by his side, and Dr. Bhupen Hazaraika as his co-singer, he has tasted success in number of stage-shows. Sandhya Menon, who is regarded as the far-famed Assamese singer, had sung songs in New York (USA), which was composed by Sarkar. She had earned tremendous response from folk-song lovers of the country. In 2001, Government of West Bengal honoured him by conferring the "Bhawaiyah Mukut Mani" for his fantabulous implementation in the field of folk singing.
