Ajaikapada Bhairava Temple

Ajaikapada Bhairava Temple located in Jagatsinghpur district in Orissa is dedicated to Ekapada Bhairava. The temple was first built in the 10th century and later rebuilt in the 20th century.

It is one of the several forms of Lord Shiva. The temple is located at a distance of almost 6 kms from Alanahat, Sathalapada in Jagatsinghpur. River Alaka, a tributary of Mahanadi River flows by the temple.

Architecture of Ajaikapada Bhairava Temple
According to the Archaeological Survey of India the temple dates back to the 10th century. It was built by the Somavamsi Keshari Kings. Due to natural calamities as well as invasion by the non Hindu rulers the temple was destroyed. Later in the 20th century the temple was rebuilt. Presently the temple is a small Pidha deula. Images of Bhairava and a Shivalinga have been installed in the garbhagriha of the temple. The image of Bhairava possesses one foot and four hands. The lower two hands are broken while with the upper two hands he holds some disc shaped objects. Ajaikapada Bhairava is said to be the ruling deity of the star Purva Bhadrapada.
