Ahmad Shah"s Tomb is a medieval mosque near the Jama Masjid in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is locally known as "Badshah no Hajiro" or "Raja no Hajiro" meaning "King"s Mausoleum". Ahmad Shah is the founder of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. This is one of the beautiful monuments in Ahmedabad. The architectural extravagance and exquisite artwork makes the Tomb of Ahmad Shah simply a class apart.
The mosque has the tomb of Ahmad Shah I, the founder of Ahmedabad in centre. It was completed by his son Muhammad Shah II in 1414, and who is buried to his left. Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II, grandson of Ahmad Shah is buried to his right. The tomb of Ahmad Shah"s brother is outside of the main chamber.
History of Ahmad Shah
Ahmad Shah built Ahmedabad in 1411 and from then the name of Ahmad Shah is closely related to this beautiful city in Western India. Ahmad Shah was the ruler of Muzzafarid Dynasty and ruled in Gujarat from 1411 to 1442 and he founded the city of Ahmedabad and established it as his capital. During his rule Ahmedabad became one of the most prosperous cities in Western India.
Architecture of Ahmad Shah"s Tomb
Architecture of Ahmad Shah"s Tomb has the main square building with large central dome. There are four chambers at all four corners with smaller domes. The tombs are in centre. The chamber is lit with delicately carved stone screens. Latticed windows, artistic craftsmanship, and domes and minarets give an exquisite look to the tomb.
Naubat at Ahmad Shah"s Tomb
Naubat is a traditional orchestra which is still played as a remembrance of Ahmad Shah near the tomb. The ninth generation of Naubat musicians plays Nagara and Shehnai every day at Naubat Khana, a drum room above the entrance of the tomb. They played Naubat at evening 19:30 every day to announce the sunset.
