Aavoor Pasupteeswaram Temple was built by Kochenkann Cholan. This temple is the 21st in the series of Tevara Stalams located south of the river Kaveri. Kamadhenu came down to the earth here and worshipped Shiva. Brahma, the Saptarishis, the Devas, Indra, Surya, the Navagrahas and Vasishta worshiped Shiva here. The hillock on which the temple is built was a result of the tussle between Adiseshan and Vayu as in Tirunallur.
A five-tiered Rajagopuram sits atop the entrance of the temple. The temple occupies over an acre. Inscriptions from the period of Rajendra Chola III are seen here.
