99th Indian Infantry Brigade

The 99th Indian Infantry Brigade was raised at Lucknow in April 1941as an infantry formation. It was developed by the British Indian Army for service in the Second World War. The brigade functioned from 1941 to 1945 under the control of the British Government of India. In October 1941, it was attached with the 34th Indian Infantry Division. Later it was assigned to the 17th Indian Infantry Division in October 1944.

The troops participated in the Burma Campaign and valiantly fought against the rival forces. The 99th Indian Infantry Brigade was allotted to the 19th Indian Infantry Division on a temporary basis and was again attached to the 17th Indian Infantry Division in August 1945. It was dissolved in the same year. However, after the Indian independence, the brigade was re-established in 1960.
