The extremely popular soap Shanno Ki Shaadi is a simple story about an ordinary girl with extraordinary twists and turns in her fate. This serial moves along the lines of another popular Hollywood chartbuster 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'. It is a very family oriented drama and deals with a Punjabi and Sindhi family. The cultures of both the communities are depicted with a subtle beauty.
The whole plot is set against the beautiful backdrop of Punjab with its green field, flowing streams and scenic landscapes. It is about a young girl whose extended family is keen to see her get married to a good guy from an excellent family background. The only concern is the family of Shanno is that she must get married away immediately as she is 26 years old. They feel that she is over the hill in the age of marriage. Her marriage is one of the most important topics that form the center of discussion in the neighborhood as well.
In spite of having a matchmaker aunt and also getting enough customers who come to her dhaba to relish her 'paranthas' she could not find herself a proper match. Her mother is also very worried over her daughter's flight. She is of the view that Shanno has shut herself from the idea of marriage and hence not meeting any prospective groom. Shanno also finds herself waiting eagerly from her prince charming but to no avail.
The second part of the plot is even more interesting when Shanno not only falls in love with her dream boy but also gets him married to him ultimately. Like all fairytales Shanno's dream also comes true. The characters in the soap are very real and true to heart. Produced by UTV the starcast of Shanno Ki Shaadi includes Divya Dutt in the lead role of Shanno, and the others include Vikas Bhalla, Kamini Kaushal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Shoma Anand. At times the situations in the household of Shanno turn out to be hilarious. It is indeed a very good production of Star Plus.
The director of this popular soap Rajiv Mehra is always believed to come up with such brilliant products. According to the lead actress Divya Dutt, Shanno Ki Shaadi would not have worked so well if the chemistry between co-stars themselves would not have been upto the mark. The serial stretched for only 15 episodes and shows to the bold determination of a girl as she was waits for her matrimonial alliance to get over. The hilarious incidents provide a comic relief in a very interesting manner. Over all Shanno Ki Shaadi is a good watch and is a breakaway from the monotonous melodrama of the family flicks. The audiences truly expect that such kind of short flicks will continue to add to the interest of the small screen audiences.
