 Chanderi Fort is located at Chanderi town of Ashoknagar District in Madhya Pradesh state. It is situated southwest of Betwa River on a hill at an elevation of 71 meters above the town. The fort is encompassed by hills, lakes and forests and it houses several monuments of Bundela Rajputs and Malwa Sultans. Chanderi town has its mention in the epic Mahabharata. The walls of this vast Mughal fort were constructed mainly by the Muslim rulers of Chanderi. The main entrance of the fort is called the Khooni Darwaza. To the southwest of the fort there is a curious gateway called katti-ghatti made through a hill side. The remnants of the Chanderi Fort include the Hawa Mahal and the Nau Khanda Mahal.

Chanderi Fort is situated at a distance of 127 km from Shivpuri; 37 km from Lalitpur; 45 km from Esagarh and 38 km from Mungoali. Ashoknagar Railway Station and Bhopal Airport are the nearest to visit the fort. National Highway 19 connects Chanderi town to other parts of Madhya Pradesh.
