Uttar Pradesh has a number of bird sanctuaries. They provide support to different bird species in the state.

Bird Sanctuaries of Uttar PradeshThe state of Uttar Pradesh is located in the northern part of India. It is the most populous state in the Republic of India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. This state has varied topography, vibrant culture, monuments, museums, temples, lakes, etc. They have not only beautified this state but have also helped Uttar Pradesh rank first in domestic tourist arrivals. Bird Sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh are no exception in this regard. They provide support to different bird species in the state.

Bakhira Sanctuary
Bakhira Sanctuary is located in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This sanctuary was established in 1980 and occupies an area of about 29 square kilometers. It is a natural flood plain wetland and an important lake which functions as a wintering and staging ground for a number of migratory waterfowls and a breeding ground for resident birds. The lake houses more than 30 species of fishes. Its dominant species are Labeo Rohita and Chana species.

Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary
Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is located in Unnao district on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway. This sanctuary provides shelter to about 250 species of migratory birds. It has a lake, a deer park and watchtowers.Bird Sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh

Lakh Bahosi Sanctuary
Lakh Bahosi Sanctuary is situated near the villages of Lakh and Bahosi in Kannauj district. It is spread over an area of about 80 square kilometers including a stretch of the Upper Ganges canal. This sanctuary provides shelter to species from 49 genera.

Okhla Bird Sanctuary
Okhla Bird Sanctuary is situated in Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar district. The Uttar Pradesh Government had designated an area of about 3.5 square kilometers on the River Yamuna as Okhla Bird Sanctuary in the year 1990. This bird sanctuary serves as a home to over 300 bird species, especially waterbirds.

Samaspur Sanctuary
Samaspur Sanctuary is situated near Salon in Rae Bareli district. It was established in the year 1987, covering about 780 hectares of land. About 250 varieties of birds receive protection in this sanctuary.

Sandi Bird Sanctuary
Sandi Bird Sanctuary is situated in Hardoi district, at a distance of about 19 km on Hardoi-Sandi Road. It was established in the year 1990 with the aim to protect the natural habitats and aquatic vegetation for the local residents and migratory birds. Uttar Pradesh Government acts as the managing body of this sanctuary.

Patna Bird Sanctuary and Saman Sanctuary are the names of the other Bird Sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh.
