Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary, Himachal Pradesh was established in the year 1958 and enriched with beautiful Rhododendron plants, Blue Pine, Coniferous, Oak Forests and others. The sanctuary is home to over 117 species of birds and plenty of wild creatures.

Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a famous wildlife sanctuary which is located in the area of Khajjiar in Chamba District in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The area covered by it measures about 30.69 square kilometres and boasts of picturesque trekking locales at Khajjiar and Kalatop, lying across Ravi River. Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary was founded in the year 1958 and is said to be amongst the very few wildlife reserves which are quite popular in Himachal Pradesh. This sanctuary is based at varying altitudes of nearly 1,185 metres to 2,768 metres above mean sea level and is complete with interesting wild creatures as well as lush green vegetation.

Fir and Deodar forests occupy an area measuring about 19.63 square kilometres inside Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary. It is situated at a distance of nearly 6 kms away from Dalhousie and is flanked by dense Oak and Coniferous Forests. Apart from this, Blue Pine Forests, Cedar Forests and Rhododendron plants are also existent in this part of the country. Different medicinal herbs grow in Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary which are accumulated by the local villagers for healing various physical disorders.

Visitors to Kalatop Khajjiar Wildlife Sanctuary provides safe refuge to wild creatures including Himalayan Black Bear, Serow, Leopard, Barking Goral, Common Langur, Squirrel, Jackal, Antelope, Himalayan Black Marten, Deer, Bear, Himalayan Tahr, Ibex,, Indian Muntjac, Musk Deer, etc. Grey Headed Cannery Flycatcher, Blackbird, Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Eurasian Jay, Black Headed Jay, Chestnut Billed Rock Thrush, White-winged Black Bird, Kaleej Pheasant, Kokla, Cheer Pheasant, Black-Headed Jay are amongst the 117 unique species of beautiful birds which survive in this sanctuary.

Tourists must make it a point to reach the sanctuary between the months of May and June, and from September to October.
