Hemanta Mukhopadhyay was a renowned Rabindrasangeet Singer in India. Born in Varanasi, he migrated to Kolkata along with his family. He is considered as an exponent of Rabindrasangeet and had recorded many songs of this genre throughout his career. In the year 1987, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay was nominated for the award of Padma bhushan which he had politely refused. He had also refused the award of Padma shri in the year 1970.

He is also an adept tabla performer who had learnt from Ustad Ali Ahmed Khan. He started his career as sales professional but later changed his career to a full time music professional.
