65th Carnatic Infantry

The 65th Carnatic Infantry was mainly an infantry battalion of the Army of British India. The army unit was incorporated as a part of the Madras Command. It was also a part of the Madras Native Infantry, which was under the Army of the Madras province, before the beginning of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The Battalion remained in existence from the year 1759 to 1904. The Madras Army was the armed forces of Madras Presidency which was raised for guarding the commercial interests of the British East India Company. It was amongst the 3 main Presidency Armies in British India. The British Crown in India took control over the 3 British Presidency Armies, including the Bombay Army, the Madras Army and the Bengal Army and the Honourable British East India Company, when the Government of India Act 1858 was authorized after the Great Revolt in 1857. The 65th Carnatic Infantry regiment was formerly designated as the 6th Battalion Coast Sepoys unit.

The 65th Carnatic Infantry regiment was developed as the 6th Battalion Coast Sepoys in the year 1759 by the English East India Company. The military regiment first participated in the Wars of Carnatic from the year 1746 to 1763 and afterwards fought in the the Battle of Sholinghur during the Second Mysore War. The 6th Battalion Coast Sepoys fought in the Third Mysore War (Third Anglo Mysore War) and also took part in the Second Burmese War.

The battalion remained loyal to the British administration during the Great Revolt of 1857 and fought at the military campaign in Central India. The 65th Carnatic Infantry regiment was finally dissolved in the year 1904.
