Vanavasi is located in Salem district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town panchayat located at a distance of almost 19.8 kms from Mettur, 11 kms away from Tharamangalam and 6 kms away from Jalakandapuram. Salem is located almost 36 kms away and Nangavalli1 km away from Vanavasi. People of different castes reside in Vanavasi. Among them Devanga Chettiar and Senguntha Mudaliyar dominate the region. The town has a Murugan Theatre.

Vanavasi has two government run schools, one is a government higher secondary school and the other is an elementary school. Besides this Sakthi Matriculation School and Esha Elementary School is also located in Vanavasi. The town also has a local library.
Economy in Vanavasi
Vanavasi is known for making handloom silk sarees. The town also has few power loom factories that produce synthetic sarees.
