Legend of Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple
As per a legendry fable, a huge heap of Ragi i.e. a food grain became a stone. henmce the temple is known as Ragigudda. It is believed that the temple was visited by Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The trimurtis wished to stay in the temple hence they changed themselves into 3 big stones pillars that can be seen in the temple.
Construction of Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple
The temple was formed in 1969 by the initiative of a youth. Gradually it developed into a huge complex that houses several deities besides the main deity of Lord Hanuman. The temple enshrines the idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Lord Ganesha, Bhagavathi, Sri Rajarajeshwari, Navagrahas and a Shivalingam. Presently the temple has two halls. The small hall is usually rented to perform several Hindu rituals like thread ceremony while the bigger one is used for other events such as marriages.
The temple celebrates the festival of Hanuman Jayanti on a grand scale for 12 days. Special poojas, abhishekasm, homas are observed during his time. Mahaprasada is offered to all the devotees who visit the temple during this time.
