![]() Location of Hanuman Tok It is located about nine kilometres uphill from Gangtok on a calm and tranquil hilltop. The temple is nestled at an altitude of 7200 feet. Hanuman Tok is situated approximately 5 km rising from White Hall on a bifurcating road of the Gangtok Nathula highway. It is 11 km away from the Gangtok town, the capital of the state. Legend of Hanuman Tok Legend has it that Lord Hanuman took rest for a moment at this place when he was on his way to Lanka from the Himalayas. He was carrying sanjeevani (a magical herb which has the power to cure any malady) for Lakshman. Significance of Hanuman Tok The temple is popularly known as a wish fulfilling temple. The temple is maintained and preserved by the resident units of the Indian Army. They were handed over the responsibility of this temple in 1968. The local people also contribute for the maintenance of the temple. Recently, the temple has been repaired and renovated and has been provided with several public utilities. Attractions of Hanuman Tok Hanuman Tok is surrounded by natural beauty and thus away from the pollution and hustle and bustle of the city. One can get a wonderful view of Gangtok town and the nearby hills from the top of this hillock. Other than the imposing view of the peaks surrounding the Kanchenjunga Peak, tourists can also get the pleasure of viewing the Selep water works, which supplies drinking water to Gangtok. The royal cremation ground of Lukshyama is located in the adjacent to this area. The cremation ground has stupas and chortens. Here the mortal remains of the former royal family members of Sikkim are cremated. |
