Mamta Maharaj, Indian Kathak DancerMamata Maharaj was born in a family where Kathak was preached and practised intensely. She was taken care of by family of "Shri Kalka Bindadin Maharaj" of Lucknow Gharana, the family which has been supporting the classical form of Kathak for many decades.

Mamta represents the eight generation of Kathak in the family after the legends like Shri Lacchu Maharaj, Late Shri Shambhu Maharaj, Shri Acchan Maharaj and her father and guru the living-legend himself Padma Vibhusan Pandit Birju Maharaj. She happens to be the first dance professional from the family. She trained extensively under Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Various audiences have had the luck to witness her performance. From Kolkata to Mumbai, Lucknow to Delhi to Hyderabad and many other places in India, Mamata Maharaj has left a deep impact among the audiences. She has, over the years, become a signature mark of Kathak dance form. She has taken Kathak to the world, be it in New York, Washington, Seattle, California, Los Angeles and San Francisco (USA), Edmonton, Calgiri and Such Kachune (Canada), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Beijing and Shanghai (China), Burma, and more.

She also takes keen interest in the dance school, Kalashram formed by her father. This foundation has produced some of the leading dancers of the country. She has been involved with dance and art for all her life. She also helps her fathers in many dancing assignments and also gives lectures and demonstrations in various p[arts of India and world. Her creativity has been approved when she, collaborating with other dancers, fused kathak with mohiniattam and kuchipudi.

She has over the years been a part of a lot of teaching assignments and imparted her knowledge in Fine Arts Temple, Perth, Australia. She is she currently the teacher of Kalashram - Mayur Vihar, living her passion to pass on this traditional dance form to young generation and new people worldwide.
