The Governors of Gujarat are as follows:
Mehdi Nawaz Jung
Mehdi Nawaz Jung became the 1st Governor of Gujarat from 1st May 1960 to 1st August 1965. He was an Indian bureaucrat and was also the first commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.
Nityanand Kanungo served as the 2nd Governor of Gujarat from 1st August 1965 to 7th December 1967. He was a member of the Indian National Congress.
P.N. Bhagwati was the 3rd acting Governor of Gujarat from 7th December 1967 to 26th December 1967 and again from 17th March 1973 to 4th April 1973.
Shriman Narayan became the 4th Governor of Gujarat from 26th December 1967 to 17th March 1973. He was a great supporter of the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi.
Kambanthodath Kunhan Vishwanatham
Kambanthodath Kunhan Vishwanatham served as the 5th Governor of Gujarat from 4th April 1973 to 14th August 1978.
Sharda Mukherjee was the 6th Governor of Gujarat from 14th August 1978 to 6th August 1983. She was wife of Air Chief Marshal Subroto Mukherjee.
Kizhekethil Mathew Chandy
Kizhekethil Mathew Chandy became the 7th Governor of Gujarat from 6th August 1983 to 26th April 1984. He also served as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and Puducherry.
Braj Kumar Nehru
Braj Kumar Nehru served as the 8th Governor of Gujarat from 26th April 1984 to 26th February 1986. He was the nephew of Jawaharlal Nehru. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1999.
Ram Krishna Trivedi
Ram Krishna Trivedi was the 9th Governor of Gujarat from 26th February 1986 to 2nd May 1990. He was the first to introduce Voter ID cards in Indian Elections.
Mahipal Shastri became the 10th Governor of Gujarat from 2nd May 1990 to 21st December 1990.
Sarup Singh served as the 11th Governor of Gujarat from 21st December 1990 to 1st July 1995.
Naresh Chandra was the 12th Governor of Gujarat from 1st July 1995 to 1st March 1996. He was awarded, the Padma Vibhushan for civil service in 2007.
Krishna Pal Singh
Krishna Pal Singh became the 13th Governor of Gujarat from 1st March 1996 to 25th April 1998. He was a Freedom Fighter and a well-known trade union leader.
Anshuman Singh served as the 14th Governor of Gujarat from 25th April 1998 to 16th January 1999. He was also the acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.
K.G. Balakrishnan was the 15th acting Governor of Gujarat from 16th January 1999 to 18th March 1999.
Sunder Singh Bhandari
Sunder Singh Bhandari became the 16th Governor of Gujarat from 18th March 1999 to 7 May 2003. He belonged to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Kailashpati Mishra served as the 17th Governor of Gujarat from 7th May 2003 to 2nd July 2004. He was a freedom fighter who took part in the Quit India Movement in 1942.
Balram Jakhar was the 18th Governor of Gujarat from 2nd July 2004 to 24th July 2004. He was elected as the 7th and 8th Speaker of Lok Sabha.
Nawal Kishore Sharma
Nawal Kishore Sharma became the 19th Governor of Gujarat from 24th July 2004 to 24th July 2009.
S.C. Jamir served as the 20th Governor of Gujarat from 30th July 2009 to 26th November 2009. He has also served as the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Governor of states like Maharashtra, Goa and Odisha.
Dr. Kamla Beniwal
Dr. Kamla Beniwal was the 21st Governor of Gujarat from 27 November 2009 to 6 July 2014. She was a member of Indian National Congress party.
Margaret Alva became the 22nd Governor of Gujarat from 7 July 2014 to 15 July 2014. She was a member of Indian National Congress party and was Joint Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.
Om Prakash Kohli
Om Prakash Kohli is the present and the 23rd Governor of Gujarat from 2014. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
