Kayasth

Kayasth is the Writer caste; it stands at the head of the Sudras, or between them and the Vaisyas.

Famous Kayasth PeopleIn the Puranas the Kayasth is mentioned as the Writer caste. Their origin is not sure. The Kayasth themselves assert that their common predecessor, on the father`s side, was a Brahman.

Again it is believed that the Kayasth sprang from a Kshatriya father and a Vaisya mother. In point of education, intelligence, and enterprise, this caste occupies deservedly a high position. However they are notorious for their drinking and gambling tendency. They are renowned for spending a lot of money in the marriage ceremony.
