According to Hindu mythology, Panchapsaras is the lake of the five nymphs. The nymphs were sent from heaven by Agni and the gods to allure and tempt the sage Mandakarni, from his severe austerities. The nymphs were successful in attracting him.
The sage Mandakarni made a beautiful palace for the nymphs under the Panchapsaras Lake. The nymphs use to dwell there. The hermit Mandakarni left his life of penance and lived with the stunning and mesmerizing nymphs
