The 2nd Bombay Pioneers was one of the prominent regiments of the British Indian Army. The military battalion was raised in the year 1922, when the single infantry regiments of the British Indian Army were merged to develop larger regiments comprising of 4 to 6 battalions. Later in the year 1929, the unit was re-designated as the Corps of Bombay Pioneers.
The army battalion was awarded with Battle Honours, North West Frontier (1930- 1931) for providing valuable military services. The Corps of Bombay Pioneers included a number of regiments of the Bombay Pioneers, which existed before 1922. These are mentioned below-
* 107th Pioneers
* 12th Pioneers (The Kelat-i-Ghilzie Regiment)
* 128th Pioneers
* 48th Pioneers
* 121st Pioneers
These regiments were merged together in the year 1922 in order to raise the 2nd Bombay Pioneers. The former Bombay Pioneers regiments were re-designated as battalions of the newly formed unit. The 107th Pioneers was renamed as the 1st Battalion; the 12th Pioneers was titled as the 2nd Battalion; the 128th Pioneers unit was re-designated as the 3rd Battalion; 48th Pioneers became the 4th Battalion; and the 121st Pioneers was renamed as 10th (Training) Battalion. Due to economic reasons, the 2nd Bombay Pioneers was eventually dissolved in the year 1933.
