The British Indian infantry formation of the 26th Indian Infantry Brigade remained in active service from the year 1941 to 1945. The brigade was raised at Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh in March 1941 under British Government of India during the outbreak of the Second World War. It was later allotted to the 6th Indian Infantry Division. The brigade actively participated in the Western Desert Campaign and the Burma Campaign during World War II.
The troops of the infantry force served in the Line of Communication in Iraq and Iran. Later in August 1942, the brigade was stationed in Egypt. It served in Egypt till January 1943. Later 26th Indian Infantry Brigade was again assigned to the 6th Indian Infantry Division. Afterwards, it functioned under the command the Southern Command (India) from July 1944. Eventually it was assigned to the British 36th Infantry Division and served under its administration from December 1944 to August 1945.
