25th Mountain Battery

The 25th Mountain Battery was a former artillery battery unit of the British Indian Army. The regiment was formed in the year 1827 and remained in active service till 1947. It operated under the Bombay Army of Bombay Presidency until 1895. The Bombay Army was one of the three major Presidency Armies in British India. The 25th Mountain Battery regiment was also a division of the Bombay Command.

The regiment was formed in the as the Bombay Foot Artillery in the year 1827. It was one of the earliest Mountain Battery units of the Indian Army. The 25th Mountain Battery participated in the Siege of Multan during the Second Sikh War. Later the troops took part in the Abyssinia Expedition in 1868. The artillery battery unit also fought in the Second Burmese War.

The military unit was stationed in Africa in 1896 and fought in the Battle of Suakin during the Sudan Campaign. The following year, the troops were sent to the Frontier and participated in the Tirah Campaign. During the First World War, the 25th Mountain Battery provided military service in the Frontier, the Persian Seistan Cordon in the year 1917. It also served in the Mesopotamia Campaign from 1917 to 1918. The troops later participated in the Waziristan Campaign from 1936 to 1939.
