History of Dalhousie The town of Dalhousie was named after the British Governor-General, Lord Dalhousie, who had declared this place as an ideal summer retreat. Dalhousie came into existence in the year 1854 by the British Raj in the country. It was located around hills of Bakrota, Potreyn, Bhangora, Kathalagh and Terah. The Himalayan Mountain Ranges surround Dalhousie, which is situated on the western side of the Dhauladhar Mountains. It is located at an altitude of about 6000 to 9000 feet above mean sea level. ![]() Dalhousie boasts of rich Hindu traditions, which is clearly depicted in the form of their regional art and numerous local temples. This hill station is a preserver of many interesting handicrafts belonging to the ancient royal dynasties. Bharmour, which is the old capital of this region shelters the local tribes of Gujjar and Gaddi . There are as many as 84 ancient temples whose origin dates back to 7th to 10th century AD. Tourism in Dalhousie Dalhousie offers numerous breathtaking tourist locales like Karelanu, Dainkund Peak, Bakrota Hills, Sadar Bazar, Panchpula, Lohali Village, Khajjar, Tibetan Market, Dalhousie Cantonment and Gandhi Chowk. The region of Karelanu is renowned since a historical record has asserted that Netaji Subash Chandra Bose had drunk some water from a spring which was located near Karelana when he was suffering from tuberculosis.
