Kopineshwar Temple, located in Thane Maharashtra, is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The Shiva Linga inside the temple is considered to be one of the largest Lingas in Maharashtra. The temple was built by the Shilahara dynasty, but later renovation was done in 1760. The hall in front of the ‘garbha griha’ was rebuilt in 1879 by raising funds and donations. Later, again it was renovated in the year 1996. Earlier the temple was on the banks of the Masunda Lake, but presently it has been separated by the Shivaji Road which reaches to the Thane Railway Station. Kopineshwar Temple is one of the finest examples of Indian architecture.
Kopineshwar Temple Complex
The Kopineshwar Temple is situated inside a market; at the entrance gate of the temple the image of Nandi (sacred bull) is dwelled. The principal Shiva Linga of the temple is 5 feet in height and 5 feet in width. There are also shrines of Brahma, Rama, Hanuman, Shitala Devi, Uttareshwar, Dattatreya, Garuda and Maa Kali.
