Scindia Oriental Research Institute is located inside the campus of Vikram University on Dewas Road, Ujjain.
It was established in the year 1957 with a view to preserve the manuscripts. Scindia Oriental Research Institute is the treasure-trove of over 18,000 manuscripts. The manuscripts in Persian, Prakrit, Arabic and other languages are based on different subjects like Vedic literature, history, philosophy, science, religion, grammar dance and music.
The manuscripts are mainly on paper, Palm leaf and bark leaf. The illustrated manuscript of Srimad Bhagavata is also preserved there. The museum also prepared e-granthavali software of 15,000 manuscripts. The museum is open on all days from 10.30 A.M. to 5.30 P.M leaving Government holidays.
