The State Museum and Zoo situated at Thrissur is a fascinating place for those who come to the city for tourism, education, study or research. The State Museum and Zoo enclosed within the green, flower filled area of 13.5 acres is a natural hub of enjoyment and recreation for visitors.
There is an Art Museum located in a separate building inside the museum. It is a real place of interest for the aficionado of art. It houses rare and beautiful sculptures, religious idols, kathakali figures, traditional jewellery of Kerala, a delightful collection of traditional lamps, and woodcarvings.
Attached with this museum was formed the zoo. It offers the visitors to enjoy unparalleled picturesque and panoramic sylvan surroundings with a variety of animals. There is the sloth bear, different species of birds and deer, and the lion tailed macaque. Besides, there is a snake park exhibiting a collection of King Cobras, Kraits, Vipers and Rat snakes.
The museum allows people to visit the place between 9am to 5pm on all days except Mondays.
