Tirukkottaru Temple is the 53rd in the series of Tevara Stalams located south of the river Kaveri. Indra`s white elephant Airavatam created Vaanjiyaru river, with its tusks, and prayed to Shiva here. The temple faces the east and has a three-tiered Rajagopuram. The Ambal shrine faces the south. The niches around the main shrine have Dakshinamurthy, Brahma, and Vishnu. There are shrines to Sundarar and his consort Paravai Naachiyaar and another devotee Subhamaharishi. There are several inscriptions on the temple walls here. Arudra Darisanam and Vaikasi Vishakam are celebrated here.
