Paataaleeswaram Temple is the 104th in the series of Tevara Stalams south of the river Kaveri.
Legends: Aadi Seshan worshipped here, hence the names Paambani for the shrine, and Sarpapureeswarar for Shiva. Dhananjaya munivar resembles Patanjali who worshipped here. The river is also known as Paambani.
Temple: The temple has two prakarams with a beautifully decorated sanctum, and a few mandapams. Inscriptions from the period of Rajaraja Chola I, and Rajaraja Chola III, and Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan are seen here. Bhramma Theertham, Dhenu Theertham, Rudra Theertham, Neeladwaja Theertham and Naaga Theertham are the theerthams here.
Festivals: The annual Bhrammotsavam is held in the month of Vaikasi. Other fesivals include Arudra Darisanam, Kartikai Deepam, Aavani Moolam, Aadi Pooram, Navaratri, Skanda Sashti and Vinayaka Chaturthi.
