‘Kutumb’ is an Indian television serial, which was telecasted from 29th October 2001 to 7th February 2003 on Sony TV Channel. This Hindi serial has two seasons; two of them were not inter-related with each other, so they were more like two series. Both of the series revolve around the two principle characters- Pratham (Hiten Tejwani) and Gauri (Gauri Pradhan Tejwani). This was a Balaji Telefilms production, which was directed by Bharat Bhatia, Gautam Sobti and Swapna Waghmare Joshi. The word ‘Kutumb’ means family.
Summary of Kutumb Season 1
The first season of ‘Kutumb’ deals with the life of Prathan and Gauri and their joint family. Pratham is the eldest son of Mittal family and Gauri belongs to a middle class family of Agarwal. The TV serial starts with the rivalry of Pratham and gauri, but later they end up getting married and living in a large joint family. The couple will go through several trials and tribulations but at last they fall in love with each other and start a memorable journey together.
Summary of Kutumb Season 2
Season 2 of ‘Kutumb’ is completely different from previous season. It was a remake of the romantic tragedy film ‘A Walk to Remember’. Pratham is a rich spoilt son of his parents and Gauri, who belongs to a middle class family, on the other hand is a college topper. Their opposite nature initially leads to fights between them, but while practicing for a college play, they both get attracted to each other. However, Pratham's parents oppose the relationship as they feel Gauri is a middle class girl and does not fit in their family.
Then, Pratham and Gauri however get married going against their parents. Initially, they go through financial problems but gradually settle down their new world. Everything is perfect until Gauri is diagnosed with cancer; Pratham gets shattered by this news but still he continues to take care of Gauri. Gauri gets finally cured and in the meantime Pratham's family also accepts her. But at the end of the story, Gauri soon dies in a car accident.
