The annual population growth from 2001 to 2011 has been calculated at approximately 5 per cent. The male-female sex ratio is roughly 1.26, with 8,302 males and 6,591 females.

The population of children between 0-6 years of age is 2,112, with a proportion of 14.18 per cent of total population. The Female Sex Ratio (as per 1000 males) of the town is 794, compared to the average of 868 of the union territory. The Child Sex Ratio (population of girl child for every 1000 male children, between 0-6 years) is around 799, compared to union territory average of 871.
