Ghiyasudin Tughluq

During the reign of Khusraw the Hindu officers in all the key positions of the state replaced Muslim officers. These Hindu officers openly dishonored mosques, started insulting Islam. The Muslims of South Asia could not tolerate the situation. They pursued Gazi Malik, a Tughluq noble to wage a war against Khusraw. A battle was fought between them where Khusraw was defeated.

Ghazi Malik was not intending to ascend the throne of Delhi Sultanate. But there was nobody found as the successor of Khilji Dynasty. In that juncture nobles invited him to become the Sultan. Thus he became the Sultan in 1320 and laid the foundation of Tughluq dynasty. He took the title of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq Shah. He Tughluqabadfaced the first task of restoring the Delhi government which was weakened during the tenure of Alauddin`s successor. The Tughluqs were originally belonging to a Turkish Muslim family. He was the son of a Turkish slave of Balban and a Jat woman.

He was the first ruler recorded as a defender of the Delhi Sultanate from the Mongols. He captured Telingana. He raided Jajnagar. He conquered Bengal. After coming back to Delhi, his son Jauna Khan killed him cleverly in the name of giving guard of honor. Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq shah was the founder of the city called `Tughluqabad`.
