Nawalgarh is the town of havelis in Rajasthan.

Nawalgarh is often called the town of heritage buildings. These ancient buildings include havelis that were once built by the rich merchants. Today it has evolved as one of the important tourist destinations of Rajasthan. This quaint town is also famous for its heritage hotels.

Location of Nawalgarh: Nawalgarh is located in North Rajasthan. It is 30 kilometers away from Sikar. For tourists, this town of 57,000 is by for the most congenial base for the Shekhawati region.

History of Nawalgarh: It came into existence in 1737 when Nawal Singh claimed what was then a small village as the site for a fort. Nawal Singh was the son of Thakur Sardul Singh. Later it became the hometown of the wealthy and influential Poddar family, merchants who emigrated south to become Bombay-based industrialists and who have, over the years, sponsored the construction of schools and colleges across the country, including here.

Travel Information on Nawalgarh: The nearest airport from Nawalgarh is at Jaipur. The town is also connected with Jhunjhunu by road. The railway station is about 500m west, with tour daily services in each direction from Sikar to Jhunjhunu. For trips around the region there are jeeps or rented cars. Cycles can be rented at Apani Dhani to tour the place.

Aath Haveli, Murarka Haveli, Nansa Gate, Surajmal Chhauch- haria Haveli, Saraogi Haveli, Sheksaria Haveli, Bala Qila, Sheesh Mahal and other several ancient buildings. Interesting murals are to be found in these ancient monuments of the rich merchants. Holy shrines are also located within the city.

Places of Interest Around Nawalgarh: There are two places of interest that lie around the city. The nearest is Dundlod. It lies at a distance of 7 kilometers from the city of Nawalgarh. The other site is Parasrampura. Guided tours are also available for these places from Nawalgarh.
