Education of Uttarakhand shows 72.28% total literacy, where the percentage of male literacy is 84.01% and female is 60.26%. Uttarakhand State has introduced free and quality education for the talented students in the rural areas, who can not afford to study, through the Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya residential schools. There are seven Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalayas, started in the seven districts of Uttarakhand.
