Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve is located in Dhamtari District of the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh and it was established by joining the regions represented by Sitanadi and Udanti. Even the managements of both these sanctuaries were merged together. Presently, the Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve is being transformed into one of the greatest tiger reserves of the nation. Udanti and Sitanadi wildlife sanctuaries derived their names from two of the rivers which flow across the region. Visitors must visit this tiger reserve in the time between November and May.
History of Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve
Sitanadi Wildife Sanctuary is older than the other and it was notified as a wildlife sanctuary by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1974. This sanctuary occupies an area measuring about 555 square kilometres. In the year 2008, the two regions covered by Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserves were merged. Currently the total area of Udanti and Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve measures about 1872 square kilometres.
Flora of Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve
Mixed vegetation is existent in the Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, on some undulating hills. Dry Deciduous Forests, Tropical and Sub-Tropical vegetation is also observed here, especially in the area around streams and waterways.
Fauna of Udanti and Sitanadi Tiger Reserve
Tiger, Chital, Wild Buffaloes, Barking Deer, Muntjac, Striped Hyena, Blue Bull, Sloth Bear, Jungle Cat, Sambhar, Gaur, Four-Horned Antelopes, Bison, Panther, etc. are some of the animals present here. Innumerable migratory birds visit this beautiful tiger reserve, particularly taking refuge in the local wetlands.
