Tourism at Wokha District traces the spots and tourist places that thrive to be the pieces of bead from the garland of Nagaland tourism. Wokha is a district headquarter and a town and in the southern part of the Nagaland state inhabited by the Lothas who thrive to be one of the largest tribes in Nagaland. This place remained isolated from the outer world like most other parts of Nagaland. It was only in the year 1876 that the British invaded this region and made it the head quarter of the Naga Hills District under Assam. Wokha is surrounded by several hills and ridges which makes it scenic and hotspot of tourism. The region is surrounded by Mokokchung district on its north, Zunheboto in the east and Assam on its west.
The district lies in the mid-west of the state sharing its border with the plains of Assam. The district looks like waves after waves in succession when one sees from the plain of Assam. The hills look beautiful from the adjoin plains, the best time for touring the district is from October to May. There are few places that one should visit in this district, Wokha is the district Head Quarters and is situated at the foot of Wokha peak, on its western side. There is a water pool in the heart of the town which add to its beauty. EtsÂchukha is a well known water source since British time, till now it is the main water source for people of Wokha town.
Vankhosung is the mission compound of Kyon Baptist Ekhumkho SanrhyÂts (KBES) is that is about a distance of 4 kilometres from Wokha town. It is the centre of Christian missionary activities. The first American Baptist Mission activity started there in 1923.
Liphanyan Governor`s camp is on the foothills and is 43 km from Dimapur and can be approached from Wokha. From here, Doyang can be seen flowing through hills and vales in a zigzag pattern. It is a splendid sight. It is an ideal spot for rafting, angling, picnics and river camping. Doyang Hydro Project is a new addition to the tourist spots in Wokha district. This Hydel projects has a large quantity of water impounded in a dam. This dam is visible from many hilltop villages in the surrounding areas. Water sports are a viable option here.
