Topchanchi Lake, JharkhandTopchanchi Lake in Jharkhand is a natural water reservoir which was established by the British to supply drinking water to Jharia Township. It is an artificial lake. It receives water from the streams that flow from Parasnath Hills. The water is then damned by Jharia Jal Board at Rajdhato to form a massive reservoir. This reservoir supplies water to Dhanbad and its surrounding areas.

Location of Topchanchi Lake
Topchanchi Lake is situated in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. It is located on the National Highway 2 and is sited at the Golden Quadrilateral.

Attractions of Topchanchi Lake
Crystal blue colour water of the lake and the beautiful surroundings make it a perfect place to spend some time peacefully. It covers a total area of 214 acres. Apart from the serene beauty, nearby sights of the lake also attracts a number of visitors. Topchanchi Wildlife sanctuary attracts a number of tourists. The habitats present in this sanctuary are Leopard, Jungle Cat, Cheetal, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Mongoose, Langur, Jackal, Fox, and Wild Dog etc.

Parasnath Hill is one of the popular pilgrimage centres for the followers of Jainism. It is generally known as "Sammet Sikhar", the hill has several temples. It is named after "Parasnath", 23rd Tirthankara in Jain religion. The hill is visited by several devotees all throughout the year. According to the belief, few temples on the hill are more than 2,000 years old. The temples have popular celebrations that include a hunting festival, which is celebrated on the full moon (Purnima) day in April.

Ranchi airport is the nearest Airport of Topchanchi Lake and the Dhanbad Railway Station is 37 kilometres from the lake and Bokaro Railway Station is 41kilometres. Luxury buses as well as state transport are accessible from all the nearby cities to the lake.
