Temples in DatiaDatia is a district in Madhya Pradesh, with the Datia Township serving as its district headquarters. It has an area of 2038 sq. km. and a population of 627,818 (2001 census). Datia district has 445 villages and 3 towns, Datia, Seondha and Bhander. Each town is the headquarters of its tehsil. It is bound by Bhind district to the north, Gwalior to the west, Shivpuri to the south and by Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh to the east. The district is part of Gwalior division. The West Central Railway line traverses the district between Jhansi and Gwalior. Datia has an illustrious lineage of famous temples. `Peethambara Peeth` and Hanuman Giri are some such temples having a footfall of more that thousands every month. `Puraan Mahal` or `Datia Mahal` is another perfect example of soulful architecture. The Mahal is visible from the railway line passing from Gwalior to Jhansi, built to welcome Prince Jehangir after his coronation as the emperor, but he never arrived, fearing he would have to reward the Datia King with exemplary gifts due his significant role in helping Jehangir achieve the Mughal throne.
