Subodh Kant Sahay is an Indian National Congress leader and previously served as the Cabinet Minister for Tourism of India representing the Ranchi constituency of Jharkhand. He was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. Sahay is also the former Union Minister of State for Home, during the time of Vishwanath Pratap Singh. During his tenure, his main accomplishment as Home Minister was the development of peace in the state of Punjab and restoration of proper election system after a long President`s rule. Later, Subodh Kant Sahay became the Minister of State in Ministry of Food Processing Industries, during the Manmohan Singh government.
Early Life of Subodh Kant Sahay
This political figure was born on 11th June 1951 in Latehar, Bihar (currently in Jharkhand). After completing his early education, he passed B.Sc. and then studied L.L.B at A.N. College, Patna and Ranchi University. Late Shri Brijdeo Sahay was his father and Late Smt. Indrani Devi was his mother.
Political Career of Subodh Kant Sahay
Subodh Kant Sahay was the member of Bihar Legislative Assembly (3 terms); Member of Public Accounts Committee in Bihar Legislative Assembly (4 years); Member of Committee of Privileges, Bihar Legislative Assembly (2 years); Member of Library Committee, Bihar Legislature during his tenure of political period from 1978 to 1989. He was elected to 9th Lok Sabha in 1989 and became the member of Committee on Petitions, Bihar Legislative Assembly (3 years).
In the later years of his political career, Subodh Kant Sahay became Union Minister of State, Home Affairs in November 1990. He also remained as Union Minister of State, Information and Broadcasting and Home Affairs from November 1990 to June 1991. Sahay was re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 and on 22nd May 2004, he served the Indian Government as the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Food Processing Industries. Later after two years, from 29th January 2006 onwards Sahay served as the Minister of Food Processing. Again in May 2009, Sahay was re-elected as the Member of Parliament from Ranchi. In January 2011, during the shuffle of ministry, Sahay was appointed as the Cabinet Minister for Ministry of Tourism.
Other Ventures of Subodh Kant Sahay
Apart from being an active political figure of India, Subodh Kant Sahay was actively involved in the Non-Aligned Student and Youth Organisation. He was the Chairman of the organisation. He also took initiative for the welfare of the youths and came forward to help the unfortunate of the underprivileged and minority communities. Sahay took active participation in Jai Prakash Movement. He also encouraged sports and boosted several sports activities amongst the rural youth. He remained as General Secretary of Yuva Janata for 3 years, General Secretary of Janata Dal for 6 months and Janata Party for 2 years. For 2 years, he remained as the working President of Yuva Janata and President of the same for 3 years. He is also involved in social and welfare activities since student days and organised several National and State Level programmes for mobilisation of youth, working for the upliftment of the downtrodden, deprived and minority communities.

Subodh Kant Sahay was married to Rekha Sahay on 28 March 1991. His wife is a theatre personality and the couple has a daughter named Yashaswini Sahay.
